The River Wharfe runs alongside the spa town of Ilkely in West Yorkshire. Crossing the Wharfe at the rear of the Ilkely Brewing Company is a suspension bridge built by David Rowell & Co in 1934. This footbridge joins ancient woodland with a beautiful river walk. The bridge was renovated in 2001and when I visited it in 2017 the grey, silver and whites of the bridge structure (and the rivets holding it together) were slowing giving way to muted greens as nature once again began to take over.
